Nostalgia Reworked
Speculative Spatial Design
“Nostalgia Reworked” is a speculative exhibition installation that reinterprets nostalgic visual language through a contemporary lens. Designed for the Nanyang Technological University School of Art, Design and Media Gallery, the project was developed in response to the exhibition theme “Singapore Dubbing” — inspired by the concept of dub music and the layering, remixing, and blending of contrasting spatial identities. Through the juxtaposition of familiar cultural references with modern forms and materials, the installation explores how nostalgia can be reconstructed into new contemporary experiences.

Interactive Element
The exhibition installation features an immersive soundscape that explores the memories and emotions evoked by familiar nostalgic objects. The accompanying video demonstration presents a prototype for a speculative interactive system designed to shape this auditory experience. Visitors assume the role of “the conductor,” influencing and orchestrating the atmospheric soundscape through their interactions with the installation. The prototype focuses on three selected nostalgic elements, each triggering distinct audiovisual responses tied to different forms of cultural reminiscence.
